Diane's podium, she got me a sweet pair of pink sox from the prize table! Posted by Picasa

So how’d the race go? Well so much for the power of positive thinking. Diane begrudgingly lined up on the frontline, and took off with the leaders. She was extra excited that they decided to make her group do 2 laps vs. the advertised one. She went into the woods in about 3rd, where she reported. “once I got into the single track things really started to flow. I was carving the single track and felt really good. Christina from NVVC was at the front I tried to stay with her, although she eventually powered away from me.” On her second lap, Diane said she felt like she struggled and when she had to get off the bike she felt like she was more in a huffy toss than cyclocross graceful on the first lap. About ½ through the final lap she started to wear down, and then she saw Travis Sealer, also known as the stork. Travis cheers, “go Skunky Monkey!” Diane started laughing, “I’m not skunky monkey, I’m Chunky Monkey!!” So Diane entered the last section of the course, a little disoriented not really sure where she was in the field. She saw a girl coming on strong, and she kicked it for the last trip around the pond, and to the finish. Diane finished some what nonchalantly, came to a stop and rested her head on her handle bars. Normal day. An hour later, Diane checks the results. She looks at the list, looks at her age group, “damn they forgot to score me.” She thinks, then she starts to look up the list, and what do you know, who was on top of that list, that’s right the Chucky Monkey!! Diane said later she was so excited, but thought it has to be a mistake, especially how grumpy she was this morning. Diane was super stoked, and although she didn’t know it at the time, she was the second fastest woman overall, and had one her age group class. “the course was so twisty I just kept seeing women, I thought they were ahead of me…” “man that was fun” I was super proud of my Skunky, I mean Chunky Monkey…”
