podium shot...

I told myself make it back to my pit, and sit until 4:00 and I’ll roll in. Funny thing, for the most part I got the cramps out. I rolled past my pit heading into lap 7. Every so often a cramp would shoot through me, just to remind me that my legs were really pissed for the beating I was showing them. Early on lap 7 I caught Ben who was finishing up fixing a flat tire. I soft pedaled as he finished up and passed me, “come on let’s ride together.” Ben said.
Now this became a battle of the clock. Ben and I were both worked. We tried to figure out if this could be our last lap, if we could do 7 and call it a day. At 3:30 with ¼ a lap to go I said to Ben, “dude we have to another lap. We have to do 8. We worked too hard to sit for 20 minutes, and if we did that and lost a top 10 finish, we’ll hate ourselves.” Ben agreed. The last lap was a series of Ben and I helping each other along. I told Ben I was not gonna sprint him, so we decided to throw rock, paper scissors to see who would finish first. Ben’s rock crushed my scissors. And so we finished up.
