weekend update with fatmarc

Ass over teacups- Saturday’s ride

Wow. That was the theme saturday, Biddle, Rick, Me, all ass over teacups. Rob Lyons came down from PA, to hang out and ride with us, and Blair made an appearance. Blair, who is training for some mountain bike race across south Africa, was enamored with his beautiful new ride. A Jamis Steel hard tail. “you know this bike climbs a lot better than the full suspension bike?” “you know the hard tail is much more responsive.”

Hmmm. Must be the Canada in him. I love Blair.

On second thought, like that guy needs any help climbing well…

Through our first rock garden Blair spewed his white stuff all over Biddle’s shoe. By white stuff I mean his Stan’s no tube solution, which quickly sealed the cut in the tire. I actually beat Blair over a climb today, but I had to throw the bike at the last second to do so. We turned the corner; he got in his tt bars, yes tt bars on his mountain bike, and cruised away from the group. Granogue is coming together very nicely, and Brandywine is divine right now. Damn. This was the first time I have been on a ride with more geared bikes than single speeds, in a really long time. Like years. That’s a little weird maybe. Okay, maybe not. Everyone rode super well today, rode some stuff I hadn’t seen before that was cool. Rick was the man in the rocks for sure. It’s good to be a gangster.

Sunday, Sunday, Sunday

Really good group: FortJames, Slick Rick, Matt (run forest), Buddy TLB, Jay Jay, Ted Logic and then we picked up Stu, world famous Les Leach, and Kurtee. Todd el presidente and Alan the cleaner were gonna ride with us, but they hooked up with the Wilfredo group that consisted of the Guys Guys, and some of the Bike Line fellas that were out to ride the race course. We had another agenda.

Our group suffered a couple early flats, but after that we rolled smoothly, ebbing and flowing through the fine single track of fairhill. I got to maestro most of the day, Matt (run forest) was bitchin’ that I was going to fast, went to the front and dropped me. Through deception and bribery, I was able to wrestling the lead back, and set a more reasonable pace. Thankfully, and unlike yesterday, there were no stacks. All in all a really good day. I was very pleased.

I got a huge zit on my forehead. It’s like it’s got it’s own head. My night riding helmet is really old, no pads, so I wear a cycling cap under it. Thursday night it was too warm, so I had to rock sans hat, and alas now I have a second head poking out of my forehead. Yikes.

Next week we open up. Running of the Bulldogs, I felt good today, and look forward to racing next week.

Respect
