fresh breath...

Riley Stories:
one
My dog Riley has doggy breathe. You know that foul, you know he's been eatin' something you don't want to know about, and you really aren't happy that he just licked your face kinda way. So one day my wife gave him a tic tac. You know the little 1/2 calorie breathe mint. Well now, everytime Riley hears the "chik-a-chik-a" of a tic tac package he'll rush to Diane and sit at attention. It's pretty funny. You can throw one of these little mints in the air, he'll catch it, and chew it right up. Crunching all they way, and freshening his not so fresh doggy breathe. Riley doesn't get people food so this is a real treat. Does a tic tac count as people food?

2:00am we are all asleep in our bed.(Diane, Riley, Layla, and me). Riley dreams a lot, and when he does he'll rock around, back, start running while sleeping on his side. All cool things when you have four bodies crammed into a little bed. Yikes. Usually, Layla and Riley sleep in the middle between Diane and I, and push us out toward the edge. Last night, Riley was on the outside, and during one of his wild dreams, I can only image he was chasing something, or wrestling in mud or something else that dogs love to do, he rolled off the bed, and WHAMO!!! he hit the floor. He's startled Diane and I are startled, as we were sound asleep, it was 2:00 am. Riley looked dazed, confused as to how the hell did I end up on the floor? I think Ry-guy learned a valuable lesson last night. first, gravity always wins, and two, sleep on the inside.

Last night my legs felt pretty damned sussed out. 2 days hard in a row and I was pretty done. Matty (run forest) called and we rolled out of my place for mellow ride. "after all that shit I talked on Todd (el presidente) , tuesday, I just can't chase him around. He'll kill me tonight" I commented.

As we climbed up from the sunken bridge in Fairhill, whose voice did we here from the ridge. Todd's "hey boys!" A collective "fuck" echoed from Matt and I. However I have to say it was a kinder, gentlier Todd. He actually sat in on our group, and well all the shit we had thrown at him, he pretty much let us have back:

  • "what's going on up there? bike getting tired?"
  • after buzzing Matt's wheel, "sorry man, these little wheels are hard to control"
  • my favorite, "as many times as I've ridden these trails, I've never seen that, I guess it's because I never rode this section this slow, I mean no offence, just an observation..."

sometimes, Karma teaches a mean lesson. In the end it was all good. After the horse jump Todd (el presidente) pulled off. He has a secret training camp this weekend with Fuzz, Alan teh cleaner, and Kelly. Matt (run forest) and I finished up a with just shy of 2 hours. It was slow, I was tired but it was a good ride.
