Ramones- Saw 'em a couple of times, I was lucky...
Being squeezed between BALT/DC and Philly, historically we have been pretty lucky to have our fair choices of radio stations. Y100 in Philly, which played poppy alternative stuff and WHFS in Balt/DC, which played a similar style but had a much deeper play list.
Regardless, this spring saw both stations die a firey death. Y100 went rap, and WHFS went Latino. Now, I understand the dollars and cents of the decision, the urban market is hot right now, and the Latino market, is incredibly brand loyal, and frankly is the fastest growing segment of our economy. But, I digress, regardless of the reasons, the end of these 2 stations meant I didn't have shit to listen to on the radio...
Last week I was told the wonderful news that WHFS is back at 105.7 on your dial. It was my extreme pleasure as we bounded through Maryland this weekend to enjoy hearing my favorite DJ's voice, Gina Crash, and lots of music that I felt like I either owned or knew the words to. A small victory for the battle of rock and roll, but surely a meaningful one...

It is good to have HFS back. It's funny you say they had a deeper playlist. Not in the last few years. Did you listen years ago? When I was in highschool they were at 102.3. I have one of those old buttons they used to give out. That was a deep playlist. I'd say the best years were '85-'95.
Yeah, somewhere around Weasels tenure they began to suck - just like any other "alternative" station. It was bullsh#t. I saw the Ramones at a bar in Ocean City MD. My GF (now wife) got me tix for my b'day. I didn't know Johnny was such a fascist.
One of the best days of my life was watching Rock and Roll HS with my teenage daughter. My wife cooked ribs.
Thanks for the 'HFS tip though, I'll give it a listen. Don't tell my daughter, she'll want us to drag her ass all the way to the HFSfestivival again. Try doing that and racing the next day.
i did not know that
i have a 20 year old HFS sticker I am thinking of putting on my TOASTER
cool font when it was 102.3
