The dark side of a beard. The part no one tells you about. I stopped at a liquor store on the way home from work to pick up a sixer of Magic Hat Blind Faith. At the check out I get carded, which isn't totally unusual. The lady says, " you look like one of those college kids..." I reply nicely, "thanks, but I'm far past college." She looks at me, looks at my license and says, " do you have a second ID ?" I said, "are you kidding I'm 33 years old !?" She replies , " you don't have a beard in this picture..." I laugh, and show her another ID, and say, " I haven't been double carded in 10 years... Jeeze..." The Dark Side of not shaving in 10 days....
Tuesday Night Titans...
Nice group tonight: Todd, Me, Green Trek John (on his Bianachi), Jay Jay, Paul, SS Dan; John W (from bikeline), Andrew MC, and my "internet friend" Chris from NJ. We had expected Joey and Slick Rick, but they were running late and the group headed out. I met the group at the 6:00 pick up. Chris commented, "that was my fastest Judge run ever." Earlier in the day the jokes were everybody gets dropped on their first Tuesday Night Titans, most on the judge. Chris did well and hung tough. props to him. Todd and I worked hard at the front. He was keeping me honest on the descents, and I was keeping him honest on the climbs. Very fun. Todd mixed up the loop a bit, which was great and got us a nice sample of Middle Run Central before busting out white clay. On the skills trail, we rode the new teeter totter, which is nice, but scares the fuck out of me. I rode it anyway.
Todd was like water on the trail down through shock and awe, and then I conned him into the border trail. However, Todd let me around and we rode up the trail vs. the fire road for a kinder, more gentle brutal climb. A quick re group at the top, and we were back at it on the descent. At the bottom we ran into Joey and slick Rick. The collective group let out a "oh Fuck." We had been riding hard all night, the thought of trying to chase Joey was a scary one. Slick Rick had a look of horror, and amazement on his face, as he had been chasing Joey all night. We took off, Joey took second wheel to Todd and the smack started to be slung. "is that your bottom bracket creaking or your knees?" I peeled off shortly there after, so I didn't truly witness the destruction Joey was gonna lay on us. I will say the young man looks good, and it was good to see him. He smelled really nice too, must be that old spice deodorant. Hopefully I get to ride with him again soon.
Cooling down, I caught up with Matt T. We sat at a bench and shot the shit for half and hour or so. That dude rules, I 'm lucky to get to hang out with him.
it was a good night.
respect
