“you forgot to ask how much it was gonna cost, you dumb ass!” Diane barked at me as I disconnected my cell phone with the kennel where my dogs were staying, arranging for my parents to pick up our boys. I could understand her crankiness, we had a wonderful few days in Colorado Spring, but the break was anything but restful. As we sat for a 2 hour delay on the tarmac of George Herbert W Bush International Airport in Houston, waiting for improving weather in our final destination city of Philadelphia. What made Diane’s loud comment especially poignant was that on the plane were sitting amongst 20 or so catholic school teachers on their way to Philly for a conference. And yeah, 4 of them were nuns. The “dumb ass” comment carried and the plane got real quite for a few moments. Ah the joys of traveling with the chunky monkey.
