Like a kid at Christmas I have been looking forward to this ride for a year, and I couldn't sleep at all. A year ago Andrew MC, did this rails to trail ride, 84 miles out and back, EPIC, and adventure. So today was here. Kurtee. Slick Rick, Andrew Mc and I.
I expected an easy paced rails to trail that would roll nicely, and give me a chance to get 5 hours in the saddle. Mentally, rails to trails, as I expected, are not stimulating at all. We set out and the trail, which is sandy in nature, was soft. We suffered, and powered through it the entire time, nothing rolled easily.
Two hours and 30 minutes in we were 31 miles in, Kurtee asked if anyone wanted to turn back. Rick commented that if it took us 2:30 back into a headwind, we'd still have 5 hours. No one moved. Kurtee turned back on his own.
Two hours and 45 minutes in we were 35 miles in, and still had 7 miles to York. I did a quick calculation in my head, and figured that put us at 7 hours round trip. I turned around, and I took Slick Rick with me. Andrew, sick bastard, ironman, continued on to complete the entire loop.
