Diane and I love Bike Bingo... Posted by Picasa

I saw an interview with Perry Farrell the other night. He commented that he thought that it was so difficult to find good new music out there. The interviewer asked why, and he said frankly downloading was killing it. Farrell continued to say that record companies recognize that most folks 19-35 aren’t buying music but downloading it. The record companies saw this so they stopped putting their money into bands that would appeal to this age group. That meant that they need to find a new market who would buy their music. They did, teeny bopper girls, younger than 18. That’s why we see seemingly 1000 Britney Spears knockoffs, and why a Disney musical can be the top selling DVD for months at a time. Farrell continued to say that there are good musicians out there, and all it takes is one gangly dude to realize that he can get chicks by playing guitar loud and fast, that rock and roll would live on, with or without the record companies support. I kinda liked that...

Dear Conspiracy Theorists:

Taylor Hicks is the man! Pop culture rocks. Gangly dudes playing guitar all sound alike in the same way the 1,000 Britney knock-offs sound alike. To each their own.

I see it as the artist's responsibility to put forth music worth listening to. How often have you bought a CD for one, maybe two songs & the rest of the "music" sucked. I think that, as being in that age bracket, the artists that are really worth having, you have already bought the albums or you will buy albums. Otherwise, we download the couple good songs & move on. It's just a testament to our culture/society right now and how technology is progressing that sometimes we should question whether or not we should, just because we can. Everything has a consequence. I dunno, maybe none of my rambling makes sense. But there's my $.02

well...
I think that converstaion has been held by an "artist" every decade for a long time...

I think there may well be more good music
but it is harder to find
as you may need to wade through so much SHIT!

it is like country
now I do not listen to country
but I will tell you
that folks that like country do not listen to that pop crap that is top of the charts

the same goes for rock and roll
and has always gone for rock and roll
the best stuff is not usually what is consumed by the masses

just ignore that stuff and dig deeper

the same people making music a decade ago are still making music

oh

the song Jane's Said

I love it
although I can not play guitar
bet ya I could figure out those two cords in a few minutes

(our list of best shows/concerts a few years ago... when I was twenty.... that was roughly 19 years ago... I saw Jane's Addiction before they were anything.... I had no idea that I was watching the horse that would win the triple crown as it warmed up)
