This is Ryan Leach of the overall champion Visit PA team. My last conversation with him had something to do with Ron Jeremy, a video projector, and a 40 ft wall...
Learnings:
You know that looking to the next one of these we learned a lot this weekend. First and foremost I have to take accountability for my poor night lap. My 3rd lap, I just cracked. It was the lap before dawn, and I could never get it going, my time was 15 minutes slower than my first lap. That is just poor. I expect more from myself. I know I let my teammates down, and that kinda sucked. It was so bad when I talked to Diane afterwards, (she was following along at home) she asked, "so what happened on your 3rd lap?" My bad.
Second, tactically we made a huge mistake in our line up. Andrew, our rider with the least night riding experience, did the most night laps. That just wasn't smart on our part. After our preride, before the race, we should have mapped out how the race would play out, and tackled that better. We should have created a line up that put folks with the most night riding experience on the course at night. Of course I have lots of night riding experience and still blew it. So maybe it doesn't make a difference at all. That whole hindsite thing I guess...
All in all, we rode a clean race, no one was injured, aside from being tired and beaten up from rigid forks, and we had no mechanicals or flats, at least until the drive home when Matt got a flat on the big rig. We walked out of the race with some cool swag, and smiles on our faces.
I had a great weekend, the course was great, the racing was great, and I had a great team, great teams around me, great support. Not too bad for some dudes from Newark Huh?
