Brian sans blue tights...
Although it looked like our investment had gone bankrupt, this was actually my favorite part of the ride, as in a weird pace line sort of way, we each took turns pushing the now drivetrainless Single Speed Dan home. A person would go the front, push for awhile, get tired, roll to the back, and the next in line would pull up and take a push of Single Speed Dan.
Following the ride, Matt, SS Dan, and Buddy helped me polish off a Growler of Anvil Ale, and we enjoyed watching a DVD of the world's greatest road crashes. Truly some brutal footage. Diane showed the quilt she was making, and Matt asked if she was gonna help Slick Rick with his quilting, of course she agreed.
As for the return on our investment, despite not getting all the time I wanted in today, I have to say our investment paid dividends well ahead of the Dow Jones average for today. Perhaps not as strong as say a .com IPO in the late 90's but still the return on our investment was almost 2 good hours of riding trails, hanging with good friends, getting to admire Brian's Blue Jersey and being thankful that he didn't have matching tights today. If that's not a dividend, then I don't know what is.
