This past weekend Monk and I celebrated our 11th wedding anniversary.
To celebrate We did one of the things we love most: we raced cross.

Whirlygig treated us both well. I followed the strategy laid out pretty wonderfully by Mayhew in the latest edition of Cyclocross magazine. Well, of course I kinda blew the final two laps.. but damn it, I raced it and  it was awesome.

Monk had a solid ride as well, an continues to  improve with each week. I swear to god she is 100x tougher than I am...

As an observation on how things have changed in 11 years, cross that is, when we were married, we followed up our wedding with full cross seasons, that started after our wedding. Now, my vote would be to move cross back a few weeks, but what the hell. As Diane said today, if we got married today, we couldn't have had a September wedding....

Bob Reuther is one of those guys that has always been one of my heros. When I first started racing he was so nice to Diane and I , and just killing it. I'll admit I'm a little weirded out lining up against the guy. It's one of the things racing in the elite masters race that is just odd. Racing against guys I looked to up for so long.

More odd was on the first lap, when Bob and I are banging into each other through a few corners. "fuck, man that's Bob Reuther." "Fuck man, Bob Reuther is man handling me right now." It's bike racing. It's good racing for all...

my result wasn't stellar , but racing was. The result wasn't really the point, but the effort, the battles fought, won and lost. It was a stake in the ground for me, and a good day.
