220: lookin' at my gucci, it's about that time

Found out today that Judd will now be the director of the MABRA cross series. Judd has asked that I be one of the technical advisers for the series. I'm pretty stoked about that. I wonder if that means I can get back on the MABRA cross promoters email list? Just curious.

The weatherman predicted a pretty horrible weekend for riding, but I have to be honest I had a couple of really great rides. Saturday Buddy lead a nice group of us around white clay and middle run.

For the record not a single one of us cleaned this log on this day. But we had fun trying.

Sunday L-Web, Rotten and I had the pleasure of being lead around sections of the d-town trail system by BPand Kim.

Colin told me he thought my bike was beautiful.

I couldn't tell if he was being serious or busting my ass, because last weekend I told him about my super secret crush. No, not Flo from the Progressive Insurance Commercials, although I do love her big tricked out name tags, but the caffeine 29er.I have to admit it's pretty sweet.

Been on FB for a week now. Perhaps not the devil as much as I thought before. I have 147 friends, most of which I know or have spoken to at some point in my life. But for the folks that request my internet friendship that I don't know I use the following protocol:

1. Ask monkey : " Diane who the fuck is Jeremy Powers and why does he want to be my friend?"

2. check crossresults.com: "nemesis or victim? have they beaten me, do they race cross, have they been to granogue, did I tell them no to a race refund?"

3. check usacycling.org :" why would some roadie want to be my friend?"

4. google stalk them.

If I can't come up with some realistic connection, or conversation with them at this point, I kinda have to ignore. Yeah, I could change the protocol, but I still feel kinda creepy about the entire facebook thing. It's just a little creepy, but you know then again, so am I. If I have ignored you in error, please leave me a comment and I will reexamine.

I agree with Colin, my bike is damn sexy.

respect

I'm more likely to ignore a friend if they've got a strange name which is less than six letters. It will only mess up my word challenge score.

It's different from a blog. Unless you access control your blog you have to assume some readers are sheer idiots. Facebook gives people access to your social network, some people who are actual friends. You don't want to give some major league jerkwad access to your social network, just like you don't want to bring a friend (who you know to be a human hand grenade) to a party at another friend's house.

This way, people I know well who are jerks - beyond the threshold of 'yeah, he's a jerk but I like him anyhow' - get ignored even though we're kinda (or actual)friends in real life. People I don't know well who seem cool enough, down to friend-of-a-friend or 'rode with her a couple times with MORE and she seemed okay' get in.

It's too complicated when I think about it. I probably should ditch FB and blogging and just stick to getting hammered at Crazy Ottos.

marc- you bring a lot to the table as a promoter, racer, and general cx enthusiast, but maybe it's time to get over the whole "dissed by the list" thing? your races left the series, nobody kicked you out. and you only raced 3 2008 mabra-cx races, out of 18 races you did (according to crossresults). so the MABRA-CX series seems fairly low priority to you.

FWIW, I was removed from the list as well, until we had requested inclusion in the MABRA-CX series- but I didn't take it personally.

marc - i was checking out 29'ers in the new mntn bike mag dominic gets. wish i had one.

fb is fun as shit. most of my friends are old party friends from back in the day. some are also triathletes and some are blogger friends. my basic protocal for ads are, 1st check and see if you have mutual friends, if none, then ignore. i also ignore all those "so and so sent you a steal your face" apps. lol.

Marc,

Progressive commercial comes on:

Me: That chick's works for me.

Wifey: Which one?

Me: Well, both of them but I was talking about the cashier.

Wifey: That makes me feel a LITTLE better knowing that you like the goofball AND the regular woman.

Me: Hey, there's enough of the J-Man to go around. (note sarcasm)

Oh, yeah the C/dale 29er is hot too. But so is YOUR bike. Your not so bad yourself... But again I've said too much.
