My question is this:
Does that make him a cheater? I saw a couple of web sites blast him as a doper.
I’m not sure I agree. I know a couple folks who from time to time use recreational drugs.
I mean these are joe six pack guys like you and me, but they are racers, good ones too.
Does the fact that from time to time they use recreations drugs make them cheaters?
Does doing using recreational drugs make you a doper? He wasn’t coking up during competition,
It was purely recreational use. Partying it up, and doing a line or two right off his 16 year old girlfriend’s ass.
I get that coke is a little more serious than weed, but still it was used for recreation right? Recreation is recreation. Relaxation after a tough week of training perhaps?
Personally, I refrain from recreational drug use, because frankly when I got interested in it, I was 30 and figured if I hadn’t started smoking weed before I was 30, it just didn’t make sense to start at that point. That being said I’ll have a few beers from time to time. Is there a difference?
Alcohol which wrecked untold havoc on my family is legal but weed is not. Those from the faticus family tree don’t always know when to say when. It’s an odd cultural duplicity isn’t it.
For the record, the 16 year old girlfriend thing really creeped me out, way more than the recreation drugs thing.

The week has been pretty mellow. Body is fatigued from Big Bear. Happily got my rigid fork back on the bike. The bike handled so much better, felt so good again. Felt like I finally got my flow back. I wonder if I would have felt better had I rocked the rigid last weekend? Water under the bridge at this point.
Monkey and Breyla-la flogged me pretty good on a the mtb ride last night. My legs just didn’t have any get up and go, but it was fun. Monkey was riding mad with power. She had woke up from a nap and was pretty grumpy, but by the time we made it to shock and awe, she was throwing the serious beat down on me.
Sleeping lots, riding not so much, thank goodness mountain bike season is over.

Agree. If he wants to be snorting with his teenage GF then so be it. It shouldn't be a cycling problem but rather father-with-baseball-bat problem. If's he's not nipping into the bushes during a race then it shouldn't bother ASO or UCI. Let Boonen Race;)

I dunno, recreational or no, drugs is drugs. Sometimes recreational CAN lead into more serious habits (I understand the faticus family tree difficulties with beer, only I fought more hardcore chemicals, which started out as recreational by the way) It can also impair judgment even when not actively "using". As sorry as I am to say it, park Boonen. Let him return after time off (like a year or more). Who wants someone in a peleton or paceline only inches off their wheel who's judgment is all fucked up. Some times you gotta fall HARD to realize what's important. It's hard as shit to resist temptation, but if you've lost what's important to you and really want it back, truly want it back, you can find a way to resist.
all I want in the world right now is a couple of 'shrooms, two or three hits of acid and a large (very large) crack pipe...
and I don't even do drugs.

i think the thing that bugs me is that while this may be a criminal issue, it is not a cycling issue. rec drugs out of competition do not constitute a positive wada drug test.
so if the test is technically negative, then why have the results been released?
what sucks most is that i will be deprived of podium shots of boonen, in lycra, only hours after he doses up on viagra.

Very true about the drug stuff. stupid move doing coke. but not a performance enhancing drug. I think he rocks as a racers but this was a bone headed move. Not a cycling issue.
Weed. I can't believe that's even considered illegal anymore. I don't do it, but it kills me that some folks will get tanked up alcohol and no one gives a shit, but someone smokes a joint and it's off to jail. But 'tis the law I suppose. But its' a stupid one.
16 is wee young. eesh. I feel like a creepy old guy when I check the caboose on someone in their twenties! I mean I still have to check it 'cause.. well just because I have to! ;)

Wow, I didn't know Boonan had a 16 year old daughter, um, I mean, girlfriend. Thanks for the info! He is now my least favorite rider.
I think cocaine should be treated like any other substance... sports star, impressionable kids... yaddah, yaddah. Also interesting to note, that other cycling stars that have been busted for recreational drugs were also found guilty (eventually) of using performance enhancing drugs. Pantani, Ulrich, Simoni (err, he hasn't been caught for doping yet though). I hope Boonen gets caught a few more times so he'll be gone for good.
