193: Ghosts in the Park...

Cross season is rapidly coming to a close. Just three weeks ago our practice was teaming with riders, bombing around the park. Tonight there was just five of us. This isn't unusual it happens every year. Cross it tough, the week in and week out grind of it, is perhaps the best, but also the toughest part of the game. Trying to maintain some semblance of a normal balanced life, while racing each weekend is very difficult. It comes as no surprise for me, that every year, following Thanksgiving things start to wind down. Peoples minds slip things like donut rides, and sleeping in, and not racing cross. Practice gets smaller...

Tonight was my first bad practice of the year. I was pretty bummed about that. I had one good effort, a couple good starts, but really couldn't get it going tonight. Looking forward to the weekend, to knock a couple more goals off of my list for the year, I need some solid rides to do that. Tonight's practice didn't instill the confidence that I had hoped for... I just need to be better than I was today. I am better than I was today.
Been working a lot, wasting a lot of energy on stressing out, dogs have been crazy, stupid damn e-collar, more like doggy battering ram, I haven't been sleeping well, worst of all, worst of all I ate pizza the past two days. I always ride poorly after eating pizza. fucking tasty pizza, my down fall in life...

Maybe it was that inside, I'm saddened that in another couple of weeks, there won't be any more ghosts in the park. That somehow, I'm depressed that cross, my favorite season of the year is drawing to a close. Perhaps, with that heavy on my heart, I just didn't ride great tonight. Maybe I'm just soft.

Maybe it was the pizza. It's always the pizza...

lots of work to do this weekend.

I'm not done yet.

I mean I'm not dead yet.

gonna be fun.

respect.

more than cross itself I miss the DCCofD, my regular dose of El Jefe, and the constant and humbling abuse of the ego.

All healthy things.

Though I am looking forward to Donut Rides and frozen snot on the beard.

Great post. This sums up exactly how I am feeling these days.

Eat more pizza. Drink more beer. Find the delicate balance between discipline and enjoyment of life's simple pleasures.

The end of cross season draws nigh....

i too have been loving the pizza.

i was still feeling great last weekend, then i tempted fate with a loud and excited, "I can't believe it's this close to nationals and I'm not sick."

you guessed it.

green and yellow chunks.

i'm still digging it, but i crave sleep more.

we can tough it out.

WE CAN DO IT!!!!

I'm over the 1 week mark on this cold and the green junk keeps coming up every morning. I'm not feeling any 'cross burnout, but my body is looking forward to some quiet times and recovery...and probably more germs coming home from day care.

I've avoided the cold, the dread flu that was going around, and other than periodic attacks, the dread pizza monster. But three weeks of work-induced missed workouts, a Thanksgiving week trip and about 65 helpings of beer and my own Best Gottdamt Cornbread Stuffin' Evah has put 5 pounds on and is making me *slow*. Plus my knees hurt because I haven't been riding enough. I'd be mad if getting fat on beer and cornbread stuffing and watching football and being lazy wasn't so damn much fun. I can see how people live this way. I'd need to upgrade to a 55 inch big screen before comitting to it, though.

Serious note - Chris, get that checked. Pneumonia snuck up on me least year, I thought it was just a bad, bad cold and some asthma.
